Mold Testing

Did you know that many molds (a.k.a. black toxic mold) produce toxic chemicals called mycotoxins that can cause serious health problems?

EPA studies indicate that air levels of indoor pollutants may be 2-3 times higher than outdoor levels. Mold, the most dangerous offender of all, often goes undetected.

what is mold?

Multi-cellular organisms of various classes of the kingdom Fungi. There are over 10,000 different species of mold and 40-50 common molds found in buildings

are molds toxic?

Some mold can produce allergens, irritants and, in some cases, potentially toxic substances known as mycotoxins. Which toxins are produced are a function of many variables such as the mold‘s food source and the time and amount of moisture present. Allergic reactions to mold are common. They can be immediate or delayed.

how does mold grow?

Mold does not need light to grow; it only needs moisture. Moisture can come from high humidity, dampness or water damage. It can start growing within 24-48 hours after water damage has occurred. Therefore it is important to dry water damaged areas and items with 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.

Mold then reproduces by means of microscopic spores; the spores are invisible to the naked eye and float through the indoor and outdoor air. Mold begins to grow indoors when mold spores land on surfaces that are wet or damp. Mold will not grow without water or moisture.
